Can anyone tell me how to find the minimum separation distance in a collision?

This is for collisions involving work and energy. I know to find the energy at minimum seperation both objects would have the same velocity. And that some of the kinetic energy is converted to potential energy. I also know that to find minimum speration distance, the question needs to give a F vs. D graph. But how do I find the distance from the graph?

Ok, well the minimum separation distance in a collision. I have a feeling that this is one of the words used only in brightstorm, because the minimum separation distance during a collision is 0... But in general if you have a Force vs. Distance graph, you solve for the work done, find the force and you have a y value for Force vs. Distance. (Otherwise W = FxD and you have a system of equations) Then find the minimal value distance can be.
