Interphase is the process before mitosis in cell growth and division. During interphase, the cell goes through 3 different stages: G1, Synthsis, and G2. During G1, the cell grows, makes proteins and organelles. During Synthesis, the cell makes a second copy of its DNA. Without the 2nd DNA copy, 2 cells would not be able to form. During G2, the cell grows more, makes more proteins and organelles, and gets ready to divide. The cell must grow twice its original size so the two daughter cells that will be formed with be the two identical copies of the first (parent) cell.  Hope this helps!

Interphase is the phase of the cell cycle in which the cell spends the majority of its time and performs the majority of its purposes including preparation for cell division. In preparation for cell division, it increases its size and makes a copy of its DNA. Interphase is also considered to be the 'living' phase of the cell, in which the cell obtains nutrients, grows, reads its DNA, and conducts other "normal" cell functions. The majority of eukaryotic cells spend most of their time in interphase. Interphase does not describe a cell that is merely resting but is rather an active preparation for cell division. A common misconception is that interphase is the first stage of mitosis. Since mitosis is the division of the nucleus, prophase is actually the first stage.

this is a part of the cell cycle which is probably 90% of the cell cycle. the cell grows and develops and if it has to divide in mitosis the DNA will replicate during S phase
