This is a right angle trigonometry question.  The height gain  h is the side of the right triangle opposite the 15 degree angle and the 2 miles (10,560 ft) is the hypotenuse of the right triangle.  The sine (angle) = Opposite / hypotenuse so sine (15) =  h / 10,560        Multiply both sides by 10,560 (10,560)sine(15) = h = 2733.1 ft
