I always cross-multiply to solve such proportions. -5/2 = t/-8 2*t = -5 * -8 2t = 40 t = 40/2 t = 20 THE PROVE: -5/2 = 20/-8 Are these two equal fractions? We reduce the right side fraction to found out. We can divided the right side numerator and denominator by 4. After doing so, it turns out that they are equal fractions. -5/2 = 5/-2 = -2.5 The conclusion is that t = 20 is correct.
