first  you need to do the paranthesis so it will look like 8x-5x-6=18 then you combine like terms so it would be 3x-6=18 then you need to take the negative 6 and put it on the left side so you need to add it to both sides and it would look like 3x-6=18    +6=+6 3x=24 then you need to divide cuz u want to isolate x so it would look like 3x=24 __=__ 3      3 and then x=8
