How would you solve a rational one sided limit problem when its approaching a negative value from the left?

For example x -> -1, you would just pick a number that is more negative. ie -1.5, -1.2, -1.1, -1.001... as all of those numbers are in fact more negative that -1... So in short if approaching a negative number from the left just pick a number that is more negative.
