You can add like terms straight across. Line them up like this then just add straight down:  2x^2 - 2xy + y^2-7x^2 - 3xy - y^2   x^2 + xy - 2y^2-4x^2 - 4xy - 2y^2

Adding on to the previous answer, you can also factor out the -4 because it's a common constant. So, it can be concluded to -4(x^2-4xy-4y^2)
